This time my family and I visited Livingston, a town in the Caribbean side of Guatemala, Department of Izabal. Livingston is a town with a unique population. It is a mixture of Garifuna, Mayan and Latino People. So you will see a very different culture from the rest of the country. These guys are famous for their dancing and food.

For our adventure to this side of the country we stayed in a beautiful hotel called Hotel Gil Resort. Now, this isn’t a big luxurious hotel, instead it is a cute, tiny, kid friendly, family owned hotel overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

The first thing that I loved about it was getting there because after a couple of hours of roads you have to take a small boat in the Puerto Barrios town to get there. That is the only way! The boat ride isn’t too long but it is along the Caribbean Coast so you get some beautiful sights.

I was impressed when I heard that this 14 room hotel is 62 years old. We were lucky enough to stay in one of their ocean view rooms and I loved it.

Some other things this hotel offers area restaurant where they offer trypical Guatemalan dishes, seafood and the most traditional dish of the region “Tapado” which is a different kinf od seafood soup. There is also a bar, a private dock, a jacuzzi and a semiprivate beach.

We really enjoyed our stay there and we even took one of the tours they offer to a place called Seven Alters which is a place with a bunch of beautiful waterfalls where you can take a swim. But that’s not the only attraction of the area. There is also Playa planca, one of the only white sanded beaches of Guatemala, San Felipe Castle and Rio Dulce.

I would highly recommend this region of Guatemala to anyone that is planning on visiting this side of Guatemala.

There Is So Much To Explore In This World, One Lifetime Is Not Enough

In the modern age, where you will not see a square foot of green patch when you go from your home to office, it is a great relief if you go outdoors for camping or for fishing. The world is becoming an expanding concrete jungle day by day. So, you will have to travel a few kilometers away from the place you live in the city to find a nice cool spot with natural surroundings. If you can afford the travel, then, you go to the magnificent Grand Canyon or Egypt pyramids to enjoy the spectacles.

Are you ready to pack your bags and venture on an adventurous journey? Wait a second. Just check if you have all the equipment and gadgets that are needed. Do not know what kind of gadgets is needed? I am here to help. First and foremost thing is to get a big bag to put your entire things into. Even though you are commuting by a vehicle, usually, during these adventurous journeys, you need to walk, trek, and climb for some time before you reach that spot which you are set to reach. Other important things for your adventure are a tent, binoculars, torch lights, preserved food, inflatable pillows and warm clothes. And since, you will be camping in the dark during the night, it is always a good idea to have goggles that can provide vision in dark. Bushnell night vision is one of the best in this category.

These days you have a lot of traveling agencies that help you to plan your trip and guide you through each step of your journey. If you are going in a group of more than 3 people, then, you can have great fun when you are outdoors. More people, more the fun.

The ability to see in dark gives you both protection and quenches your thirst of adventure. If you are camped in a location very close to a forest, then, you will need the ability to see what is happening around you during the night in order to protect from wild animals. And, if you are doing a research on animal behavior or generally interested about how animals behave during the night, these goggles will definitely help you.

Having all the necessary equipment can make your outing a real pleasure. So, it is of utmost importance for you to choose the equipment that suits you well and is of best quality. The peace of mind that one relish outdoors cannot be described in words and must be experienced once at the least by everyone. It is such a pleasure, believe me!!

Accommodation In Cornwall And Devon, Taking The Best River Cruises And Coastline Steam Train Rides

The good news is that no matter what your financial budget, you’ll almost certainly find a place to stay that suits it. Cornwall & Devon both have no end of lodgings for the holidaymaker – Here are some of your accommodation choices:

Luxury & standard hotels Bed & breakfasts (B&B) Holiday cottages Camping sites

Much will depend on where you wish to be based, and of course what your needs are.

Cornwall & Devon have many reasonably priced Bed & Breakfast lodgings – here, you get a comfortable room (often the home of the owners which offers a very nice homely feel) usually with an en-suite shower and standard amenities such as (basic) TV. A choice of breakfast (traditional English or continental) is included in the price of the room and some B&B’s offer dinner as an optional extra. This is great because the holiday-maker has the choice of exploring the town and sampling some of the local cuisine without having to be confined to the B&B at dinner-time.

For those in pursuit of luxury, there are a good choice of quality hotels available. Many of these offer excellent facilities (such as pools & gym) and depending on location may offer breath taking sea views. Expect plush interiors and satellite TV from the better hotels. Standard hotels (2 or 3 stars) are not as fancy and are similar to B&Bs in the standard of accommodation offered.

If you’re planning to stay for a week and have a family or group then you may wish to stay in a holiday cottage instead. Cornwall & Devon have a huge range of holiday cottages that can be rented (usually) for a week or more. You can rent a cottage in a peaceful countryside setting, a quiet fishing village or overlooking the sea – the choice is yours! Holiday cottages in Devon & Cornwall typically cost between 500 to 1,000 a week (depending on location & standard).

Finally, if you’re planning to hire a caravan & go camping, there are plenty of caravan & camp sites scattered all over Cornwall & Devon.

River Cruises Along The River Dart & Wildlife Cruises Along The Devon Coast

One of the most charming activities while visiting Cornwall & Devon is to take in a cruise along the River Dart. Typically the cruise will start from Dartmouth and end at the lovely town of Totnes. The River Dart is one of the most beautiful estuaries in Britain – and a cruise provides the holiday maker with an opportunity to drink in the rich tapestry of history, wildlife and pure scenic beauty all in one go.

For example, a pleasure cruise from Dartmouth to Totnes would allow the holidaymaker to see the following:

Village of Dittisham. The lovely, old cottages of Duncannon. Sir Walter Raleigh’s boat house. Dame Agatha Christie’s estate. Greenway Quay. Stoke Gabriel. Sharpham Vineyard.

Alternatively, you could also take a wildlife cruise where your tour boat sails along the immaculate Devon coast to catch breathtaking views of basking sharks, leathery turtles, falcons, bottlenosed dolphins, shearwaters, grey seals, and much more. This is a wonderful experience, although the tours only take place between May and July.

Great Steam Train Rides Across Torbay’s Beautiful Coastline

For one of the most scenic train rides to be found anywhere, try the Paignton to Kingswear (Dartmouth) rail journey. Your steam locomotive starts from Paignton Station and initially chugs past Paignton Sands and Quaywest Water Park.

The rail journey not only takes in the spectacular Torbay coastline but also runs through the wooded hills along the Dart Estuary. Initially, this most picturesque of British rail journeys goes up a steep and rocky hill offering some wonderful views of the Devon coastline. After going past Churston, the train runs inland and proceeds along the Dart Valley before reaching Kingswear. From here, passengers have the option of visiting Dartmouth via ferry.

It’s also possible to combine your rail journey with a pleasure cruise and coach ride and enjoy a fascinating journey that stretches out over the entire day.

A Look Into The World Of Snowboarding

Those who attended the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan in 1998 were the first to see the addition of snowboarding to the list of events that take place. The sport had been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1994. It is really no surprise that it found its way into the largest sports competition in the world. It had been and still is growing in worldwide popularity since the 1960’s. In the middle of the 1980’s snowboarding was permitted in fewer than 10% of the ski spots in the U. S. Today, in 2010, it is allowed in about 95%.

A snowboard is not too different in design to a skateboard or surfboard. Inside of the water or cement, it is made for a snow covered slope. A snowboard looks somewhat like a wide, short ski. Flexible bindings are used to secure the boot in place, perpendicular to the board rather than facing forward as is the case with skis.

The largest demographic for participants to the sport is young people, aged 18-24. The primary reason is the cost factor. While it may cost $400-$600 to get a pair of skis, one can get himself a snowboard plus boots and bindings for about $200. Another main reason is that its opportunity for athletic creativity makes this a “hip” sport. It allows a person to test out many different styles, tricks and techniques.

The most common form for new snowboarders is freestyle. Few, if any, tricks are added to a run. A freestyle board is generally lighter, wider and more flexible and stable than other boards. With this type of board a newbie has an easier time navigating turns and bumps.

The form most embraced by boarders is freeride. Freeriders can board down dry slopes as well as snow-covered slopes and are able to adapt to various snow conditions, from powdery to icy. A repertoire fro freeriders usually includes a few half pipe, aerial and surface tricks. A freeride board is a stiffer board, which helps riders make hard turns.

When it comes to speed, the form to watch is called freecarving. Since the focus here is on speed, there are rarely tricks or jumps included in a run. Carving is generally done on hard packed snow and involves making very hard turns. This style is not recommended for beginners as an advanced control of the board is required. Freecarve boards, also referred to as Alpine boards, ) will be narrower and longer than most other boards.

One of the big attractions to snowboarding is the opportunities to learn and perform several tricks. As in skateboarding and surfing, tricks involve twists and turns and jumps. Among the popular tricks are melons, nollies, ollies, flails, poptarts, Canadian bacon and Japan air.

It is expected that snowboarding will continue to grow in popularity as a winter sport. Its inclusion in the Winter Olympics helped give this sport the exposure it needed to expand. Television coverage as increased in other events and worldwide competitions, making it as mainstream a sport as any other.

If you are ever in the Collingwood Region in Ontario, then be sure to check out what the local area has to offer. There is always something to do, no matter if it is winter or summer. It is just south of Georgian Bay so the view of the water is a definite must-see. Blue Mountain chalet is the main destination for most vacationers and travelers, and the vantage points that it offers are great.

Tips On Packing For A Camping Trip When Travelling By Air

Camping is a popular pastime enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. Today, many people travel to destinations all over the world for camping trips. There are beautiful countries with amazing national parks that are great to explore, take part in fun boating activities, swim in lakes and oceans, and much more. When traveling by air for a camping trip, it is important to know how to properly pack for the flight to avoid problems at the airline.

The following is a list of tips on packing for a camping trip when travelling by air:

1. Before you start gathering camping gear, you should check the destination to see if you can rent certain equipment and buy the appropriate camping items. You should travel with a minimum amount of clothing. Remember, travel detergent is essential to reducing the amount of clothing you will bring.

2. Make sure you take the appropriate clothing. You should bring clothing for all types of weather conditions. Check what the weather will be like in the destination area. Remember, some places have colder climates at certain times of the year and there also places that have heavy rainy seasons. As well, rolling your clothing when packing will reduce the amount of space it takes up in the suitcase. As well, don’t forget the proper footwear such as rain boots.

3. It is important to pack the proper cookware. If you want to reduce the amount of cookware, consider getting a pot that doubles as a fry pan. Also, plastic bowls, plates, and cups are lightweight and can be cleaned easily. Don’t forget to pack a water container. Micro-fibre towels are easy to clean and dry and are less bulky than paper towels. When deciding what you will eat, consider meals that can be prepared in one pot.

4. When packing for the flight, remember you will not be able to take sharp metal items so metal forks and knives will have to be purchased at the camping destination. You also cannot carry fuel on a plane as it is prohibited because it is flammable. Lighters are also prohibited. Most airlines allow camping stoves in checked luggage.

5. When preparing for your camping trip flight, it is important to remember such items as: medications, first aid kit, passport, can opener, guidebook and maps, cell phone and charger, health/travel insurance, list of important phone numbers, (emergency contact numbers) sunscreen, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, camera and charger, binoculars, cash, sunglasses, pen, notepad…etc.

Before you actually start to pack, make sure you have made a list and assemble the items and lay them out to make sure you do not forget anything important. As well, make sure all of your items are in a waterproof bag. When traveling by air for a camping trip, it can seem difficult trying to maximize space. However, when you know what essentials to bring, it will make packing much easier. You will then be able to relax and enjoy your great camping trip, including your flight.

Family Adventure In Xocomil, Guatemala

Guatemala has surprised me a lot. It is so much more than I thought which brings me to my story:

This time we were visiting a theme park in Guatemala that we love. It is called Xetulul and can be found in the Retalhuleu Department of Guatemala. The place is fantastic and we love visiting it, next to it is its sister, Xocomil Water Park. Since I’m not crazy about pools we had never visited it but this time we gave it a shot. An all I have to say is I can’t believe what I was missing.

The place is amazing; it has many pools for kids with waterslides and places where they can have some fun without adults having to run after them all the time. There are also huge waterslides for adults that looked pretty scary but the truth is that the turned out to be a lot of fun. It is said that these are some of the best waterslides in Central America.

There are also some other interesting and fun rides for the whole family such as a rafting waterslide, a pool with artificial waves and artificial rivers where you can hop on a canoe and paddle for a while or just relax while you float among plants and representations of mayan stelas. Since we wanted to see both parks we decided to spend a night in the area and found out that there are 4 hotels that belong to the parks. As usual we decided to see all four of them before I decided to stay in one. Finally we decided to stay in the one called Palajunoj which is the newest one and for me, the best.

Let me tell you what the hotel is like: It is inspired in rain forests all over the world that’s why it has 5 buildings each with a different theme, they are: Polynesian, Indonesian, Thai, African and Mayan. It also has beautiful gardens with turkeys running around freely where you can go for a relaxing and scenic view. But my favorite part of this hotel was the restaurant it serves delicious Polynesian food.

I highly recommend coming here. I bet you never thought Guatemala had such a place. it’s simply amazing!

Marina K. Villatoro, the Travel Experta, has been living in Central America – Costa Rica and Guatemala for over 10 years. She has traveled here extensively. Osprey Argon 110: Every Travelers’ Backpack

Backpacks are known by various names such as knapsack, rucksack, or pack. Backpacks are normally made of canvas and nylon. Heavier fabric is used for carrying heavier loads while ripstop fabric is used for lightweight packs. Backpacks are a popular means to carry your luggage when traveling. They are more comfortable to carry around. They offer you a better freedom of movement. The load is distributed evenly on your shoulders, hips and legs.

Nylon and canvas are the common materials used in backpacks. Between them, nylon offers certain advantages. Besides being light in weight, the melting point of nylon is higher. It is safer when it comes to catching fire. Being tougher, it resists scratch. It is durable as it does not easily wear and tear. Animals, insects and molds are kept away by nylon. It is also more flexible. They come in all kinds of colors making it more attractive. Nylon naturally is the more common and popular material used in the manufacture of backpacks.

Three varieties of backpacks are sold in the market. The first is the frameless backpack which is the most common of them all. The second is the external frame backpack that is useful when the load to be carried is more and heavy. The third is the internal backpack which is not meant for heavy load, but is very comfy when it comes to carrying loads with you. Osprey Argon 110 review gives an example of a backpack that packs with it a lot of comforts.

A zipper, a drawstring with a cord lock or a buckle mechanism is used to secure the backpack once it is packed. There are straps on the backpack that keeps the contents from moving inside the backpack when you are moving around with it. The contents are kept in place. The most important factors that you need to consider when deciding to buy a backpack are the weight and size of the load that you need to carry, the number of days you plan to travel, the nature of the terrain you wish to navigate whether rugged, plain or steep, and the budget that you have allocated for the purchase.

All the things that we need should be brought along whenever we travel. That is why, we need to pack them up in an Osprey Argon 110.
