The three most essential components of any barbecue party are the guests, the weather and the food. I can not make suggestions about your friends and family, you are on your own there, but I hope you will find my suggestions for the other two fronts practical.

An unplanned party in the garden is great and often the best parties are the ones that just happen off the cuff, but if you want something a little more formal or more notable then you have to organize. The first step is to pick a date far enough in the future for most people to be unlikely to have a prior engagement, but not so far that they might forget about your barbecue party.

Depending on where you live of course, try to pick a date when it is unlikely to be cool or wet. This is hard in places like the UK, but may be simpler where you live. If the party goes on into the night it may get cool anyway and you could hire a few gas patio heaters in advance just in case. You could also have a sunshade or sheltered seating area in case of blazing sunshine or a light shower.

These days many people are vegetarian and you will have to plan in advance for them and other dieters, if they make up a sizable number of your guests. You could send out RSVP invitations and ask your guests to make known any special dietary requirements. I am not really suggesting that you have to cater to everybody, but if you have a lot of Jews or Arabs coming you will need to provide an alternative to pork chops and of course there are other minorities too.

In fact, you may have to do some investigation into the religions of the people coming to your barbecue party, because often cooking utensils may not have touched pork of meat or shellfish. Most people of the guests with these dietary needs will have been in this situation before and will appreciate if you go some way to providing an alternative.

For this reason, you will need to get your RSVP cards back at least a week before your barbecue party and do a bit of research on the telephone or the Internet. Then start making up the barbecue side dishes. These should include baked or and boiled jacket potatoes and potato salad, baked beans, egg quarters and coleslaw along with pickles, relish, onions, chutneys tomato and curry sauces (hot and not so hot), as most people will eat them. These can be prepared a few days in advance and kept in Tupperware containers in the fridge. Bread in the form of buns is also essential so that people can make sandwiches.

It is imperative for a polished act, to have your party area fully prepared before your guests turn up. it is a good idea to set the music system up in the garden shed or the garage to save it from any sudden shower. Provide plenty of tissues for wiping greasy fingers and plenty of receptacles for the debris. Finger bowls with lemon water would be a good idea for this purpose too.

The Best Five Ace Pitchers In The MLB

That sport called baseball is really quiet right now as the new season will not be starting for a few months and the World Series was finished quite a while ago.

As a result, I like to pass the time by taking a few moments to reflect on the current state of the game. I’ve written many articles of the sort, and today I’d like to pay homage to five of the best pitchers in professional baseball today.

Here are my top five as I see them. Feel free to agree or disagree, and I’d love to see you share your thoughts if you have a different opinion.

Taking the #5 spot on my list is Zack Greinke, the pitcher who achieved the status of having the greatest baseball season this past year. Yes, he will need to continue that for the next season or two in order to move up on this list, but, overall, Greinke is quite a dangerous pitcher with an awesome future ahead of him in this sport.

At #4 we have Roy Halladay, who is a consistently reliable baseball pitcher. It is obvious that Halladay will someday be in the Hall of Fame.

Chris Carpenter has the #3 spot. Somehow he finds a way to always be fantastic in this sport. You would have thought that not playing for almost two seasons would have made him rusty, but, in fact, Carpenter actually pitched better than he ever has before.

The #2 spot goes to Johan Santana. It doesn’t matter that he has not received a Cy Young award since coming on board with the Mets; he consistently contributes to a very good season every year. This is why Santana is at the #2 spot.

The #1 spot on my list definitely goes to Tim Lincecum. He has dominated this sport for two years now and is without a doubt the pitcher who is best at getting strikeouts. WOW is the word that comes to mind when I think about Lincecum’s ERA in the twos!

In addition to sports, this author also regularly writes on contemporary floor lamps and mini pendant lighting.

Rectangle Trampoline: Why Get One?

If you are thinking of purchasing a trampoline, take a look at the rectangle trampoline, as they are the strongest ones available, the structure as well as the build makes them that way. It does not matter if you are thinking to get it for training or for the children to play on this trampoline will see you through many years of constant play.

Before you decide to pick a rectangular trampoline, take some time to think of who will use it and the type of weight that it will need to hold, all trampolines have different specifications depending on their size and structure. Think about whether you will need to use the trampoline for serious practice or something for the kids to play on, that will be tough and durable.

When choosing you need to ask about the thickness of the metal as this will let you know how strong it is, and the thicker the construction materials the longer the rectangular trampoline will last you. If you get chance take a look online at the feedback of previous customers as this will put your mind at rest also before making your purchase.

There are many different sizes that the rectangular trampoline is available in, the one you choose will be dependent on the amount of space you have as well as what you wish to use it for. This will allow you to have a trampoline of your own without having to pay to use someone elses or maybe so that you or a member of your family can practice the sport they are learning so that they can perfect their moves at home. Different trampolines will hold different specifications in weight and you should speak to your distributor about this further. If you wish to purchase a trampoline to follow the dcor you have outside or in you will find them in different colors, you can then color co-ordinate them to match the rest of your garden/room.

You can use the trampoline to exercise as well as enjoying yourself at the same time. No matter your age you will be able to benefit from owning your own trampoline, and you could use it regularly to loose weight, to improve your core strength and also be able to pry your children from the television so they can get some fresh air and exercise without having to let them know how good it is for them..

The rectangular trampoline has been used for spots and athletic training, which is why they are great if you wish to have a trampoline that will last many many years, they are built from the highest quality materials and will mean that you have a piece of useful sports equipment for as long as you like, and if you are purchasing for your children and they outgrow it then you will be able to sell it on to someone else.

Of course, either style of trampoline, whether it be a square, round or a rectangle trampolines, will do the trick. See your options – trampolines for sale.

There Is So Much To Explore In This World, One Lifetime Is Not Enough

In the modern age, where you will not see a square foot of green patch when you go from your home to office, it is a great relief if you go outdoors for camping or for fishing. The world is becoming an expanding concrete jungle day by day. So, you will have to travel a few kilometers away from the place you live in the city to find a nice cool spot with natural surroundings. If you can afford the travel, then, you go to the magnificent Grand Canyon or Egypt pyramids to enjoy the spectacles.

Are you ready to pack your bags and venture on an adventurous journey? Wait a second. Just check if you have all the equipment and gadgets that are needed. Do not know what kind of gadgets is needed? I am here to help. First and foremost thing is to get a big bag to put your entire things into. Even though you are commuting by a vehicle, usually, during these adventurous journeys, you need to walk, trek, and climb for some time before you reach that spot which you are set to reach. Other important things for your adventure are a tent, binoculars, torch lights, preserved food, inflatable pillows and warm clothes. And since, you will be camping in the dark during the night, it is always a good idea to have goggles that can provide vision in dark. Bushnell night vision is one of the best in this category.

These days you have a lot of traveling agencies that help you to plan your trip and guide you through each step of your journey. If you are going in a group of more than 3 people, then, you can have great fun when you are outdoors. More people, more the fun.

The ability to see in dark gives you both protection and quenches your thirst of adventure. If you are camped in a location very close to a forest, then, you will need the ability to see what is happening around you during the night in order to protect from wild animals. And, if you are doing a research on animal behavior or generally interested about how animals behave during the night, these goggles will definitely help you.

Having all the necessary equipment can make your outing a real pleasure. So, it is of utmost importance for you to choose the equipment that suits you well and is of best quality. The peace of mind that one relish outdoors cannot be described in words and must be experienced once at the least by everyone. It is such a pleasure, believe me!!

How To Keep Cats Out Of Your Garden

It is very difficult to keep cats out of your garden, but do not give up, it can be managed. Cat owners may not understand why gardeners want to prevent cats gaining access to their gardens, but there are justifiable reasons, it is not always that gardeners hate cats. Cats are ferocious hunters and can also be very destructive.

For example, my next door neighbour had a cat, but felt lonely when her daughter moved away, so she permitted the cat to to have young. Now she has six cats. But cats are not like dogs. My dog stays in my garden not upsetting anyone apart from by barking if a stranger walks past the gate However, that is his job and he is not only telling me but the neighbours as well. These six cats do not remain in their own garden though, so we have all acquired six cats whether we want them or not.

The first problem I became aware of was that birds stopped coming to pick my dog’s bowl clean in the afternoon. Then I saw a cat killing a lizard, a beautiful nine inch adult and then I remembered not seeing a lot of lizards lately. There is one lizard, the Tokay, that they have completely wiped out – I used to listen to them calling at night, but no more.

Cats also dig up plants when they defecate and use furniture as scratching boards, so I do not want these destructive animals in my garden. But how do you keep cats out of your garden?

Walls are rarely protection against cats, but cats will often prowl along the bottom of walls and if they come across a gap, they will probably go in out of inquisitiveness, so plug all low-level opennings in your fences. There is not much you can do about the top of your wall other than putting broken glass or electrified wiring up there, but that is not a nice idea.

Some dogs are good at keeping cats away, but not all. My dog got a nasty and totally unexpected swipe of claws across his nose one day. He used to run after them when they were kittens, but now they have grown up, he only growls to inform me a cat is on the property. I cannot blame him.

In Australia, many gardeners believe that transparent bottles full of water confuse cats, so they stay away, but in my experience, only Australian cats react in that manner.

A row of prickly bushes or flowers along the base of a wall where cats frequently come in works. At the bottom of high walls too, where the cat cannot see them until he is on top of the wall. I often see cats mewing (in frustration, I hope) on the top of one of my walls. The only route down is to go back.

If you still cannot keep cats out, then you will need to train them not to come in. This is easiest accomplished by using several methods. If cats are using your flower pots are conveniences, try rubing the pots with pepper, lavender, lemon, mustard, or tobacco. Or you could leave a mothball in each pot. Some of these will work for you, others will not.

Then there are industrial repellents, but I do not want to resort to them. However, if you have a big garden and a big problem, it might be the only way. There are also high frequency sound emitters. Humans cannot hear them, but almost all animals can, so I think that that is deplorable as well.

At night, motion-activated exterior lighting is a great shock to cats. Cats have extremely sensitive night vision so a quick flash from a floodlamp really puts them off a garden.

The best deterrent is water. You can buy motion-activated sprinklers, which are excellent at keeping cats out of your garden, but I like to sit in my office or in the garden with a powerful water pistol and squirt them by hand. The lizards have not come back yet, but neither do the cats quite so frequently either.

How To Prepare For A Skiing Holiday

There are certain things that anyone who is going on an exciting skiing holiday needs to do and know before they hit the slopes, and while they’re on holiday. If you want to have a safe trip as well as lots of fun, keep the following tips in mind before you leave and while you’re on the slopes:

- If you’re planning ahead for a skiing holiday, spend some time getting in shape. Skiing will be more fun. And, you’ll look adorable in your on the slope fashions.

- Ski insurance is a must. If your equipment is lost, stolen or damaged you will be compensated. In addition, ski insurance should pay the cost of evacuation from the slope, should you be in a serious accident.

-The sun is strong at high altitudes. Sun also reflects off snow and the effect is made worse by the wind. A ski holiday can be ruined by a bad sunburn and chapped lips feel awful. Pack a high factor sunblock and some good lip balm.

- Are your skis, bindings and poles in good shape and do they fit correctly? If you’re renting, the rental shop will check these things out for you. If you own your own equipment make sure it’s in good repair.

- You have no control over the weather and it can change at a moment’s notice. Prepare to dress in layers. Bring a few pairs of gloves. If you lose a glove you will want to have a replacement. Be sure to wear a helmet and goggles.

- Don’t ski above your ability. Are you a bunny slope type? Well, when you’re ready to move up a step, don’t go straight to the black diamond slopes. Move up a slope at a time as your ability develops.

- Think about taking a skiing lesson or two. Everyone can learn something.

- Ski in pairs. Watch out for each other. Plan a meeting place, should you get separated.

- Warning signs are there for a reason. And ski on the trails. Going off the trails is dangerous.

- Enjoy your skiing holiday but don’t pound down the booze. Ski performance is not improved by the over-indulgences of the night before and a hangover will not make your day more fun. Never drink while skiing.

The reason one goes on a skiing holiday is to have fun. So follow the suggestions above and your trip should go smoothly and you will have a wonderful and safe time.

Tips On Packing For A Camping Trip When Travelling By Air

Camping is a popular pastime enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. Today, many people travel to destinations all over the world for camping trips. There are beautiful countries with amazing national parks that are great to explore, take part in fun boating activities, swim in lakes and oceans, and much more. When traveling by air for a camping trip, it is important to know how to properly pack for the flight to avoid problems at the airline.

The following is a list of tips on packing for a camping trip when travelling by air:

1. Before you start gathering camping gear, you should check the destination to see if you can rent certain equipment and buy the appropriate camping items. You should travel with a minimum amount of clothing. Remember, travel detergent is essential to reducing the amount of clothing you will bring.

2. Make sure you take the appropriate clothing. You should bring clothing for all types of weather conditions. Check what the weather will be like in the destination area. Remember, some places have colder climates at certain times of the year and there also places that have heavy rainy seasons. As well, rolling your clothing when packing will reduce the amount of space it takes up in the suitcase. As well, don’t forget the proper footwear such as rain boots.

3. It is important to pack the proper cookware. If you want to reduce the amount of cookware, consider getting a pot that doubles as a fry pan. Also, plastic bowls, plates, and cups are lightweight and can be cleaned easily. Don’t forget to pack a water container. Micro-fibre towels are easy to clean and dry and are less bulky than paper towels. When deciding what you will eat, consider meals that can be prepared in one pot.

4. When packing for the flight, remember you will not be able to take sharp metal items so metal forks and knives will have to be purchased at the camping destination. You also cannot carry fuel on a plane as it is prohibited because it is flammable. Lighters are also prohibited. Most airlines allow camping stoves in checked luggage.

5. When preparing for your camping trip flight, it is important to remember such items as: medications, first aid kit, passport, can opener, guidebook and maps, cell phone and charger, health/travel insurance, list of important phone numbers, (emergency contact numbers) sunscreen, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, camera and charger, binoculars, cash, sunglasses, pen, notepad…etc.

Before you actually start to pack, make sure you have made a list and assemble the items and lay them out to make sure you do not forget anything important. As well, make sure all of your items are in a waterproof bag. When traveling by air for a camping trip, it can seem difficult trying to maximize space. However, when you know what essentials to bring, it will make packing much easier. You will then be able to relax and enjoy your great camping trip, including your flight.
