If you are on a budget or you want an easy weekend project try to make your own fire pit. Find a spot in the back yard that is away from trees and buildings. Be sure that there are no underground utilities in the spot that you may dig up while making the fire pit. Take spray paint and spray the outline of a circle or any other shape on the ground. Remove any lawn that might be growing with in the outline and then start to dig down about one foot deep and make sure the sides of the hole are straight. The circumference of a fire pit should be about eight inches. If you dig a larger pit make sure to dig it more than a foot deep.

Once your hole is dug it needs to be lined with a substance that will keep it draining when it rains. In the bottom of the hole place four inches of gravel bringing it up the sides of the hole. Then over top place about four inches of sand. Around the edge of the hole you need to stack concrete pavers to about six to ten inches high. Other materials that can be used are blocks of cement, large stones and bricks. Make sure not to use any adhesive to stick them together because it is often toxic when it gets warm. You may find that the pit fills with water when it rains but it will drain soon. A wood burning fire pit needs to be cleaned once in a while so just dig out the burned material and replace some of the gravel and sand.

Coleman Ice Chest – a Company Review

After almost five decades of assisting people in keeping their things cold, the ubiquitous Coleman ice chest recently celebrated grand fifty years of service. Sheldon Coleman was the main person under whose guidance this company was founded and developed from a small organization into one of the leading recreation companies in the world. During his initial stages, Sheldon Coleman was one of the enthusiastic and passionate outdoor salesman and even visionary business leaders who served as a General Manager and a President of this company since’53.

At first the Coleman Company introduced its first ice chests in the year’54. Since that time, Coleman Company has manufactured more than 150 million ice chests in varied areas which include Texas, New Braunfels, Kan and Wichita. Coleman Company is at present the 3rd domestic cooler makers and the sole steel cooler makers.

Their early Coleman ice chest was painted heavy steel chests with rectangular lines and fiberglass insulation. These coolers were not perfect for their intentional use however were reliable with the industrial technology.

It didn’t take a long time for Coleman to enhance the standard of Coleman ice chest because in the year’57, this company became the 1st makers to incorporate plastic liners into its coolers.
